According to figures released by the AEA, the number of agricultural tractors registered in November was the lowest for any month since December 2000.
However, the Association points out that the monthly total of 408 machines was only 1% lower than in the same month last year, the smallest year-on-year fall so far in 2024.
Agricultural economist at the AEA, Stephen Howarth, said, "With the market typically quiet at this time of year and with demand already subdued, it's too early to say with any certainty whether the Budget and subsequent farmer protests had a role in suppressing tractor sales during the month."
Stephen continued, "The total number of tractors registered so far this year is 15% lower than in the same period of 2023. Unless there is an unlikely pick-up in demand in the final month of the year, the annual total will probably be the smallest since the late 1990s, although only slightly lower than in a number of intervening years."
